From scenic mountain trails and outdoor excursions to family-friendly attractions and historic landmarks, there's plenty to see and do nearby. Here are a few highlights—handpicked from Visit Salt Lake with input from our MB friends in the city—to help you make the most of your visit.

HIKING TRAILS

Living Room Trail - 2.3 miles, 977 feet of elevation, 1 hour 41 minutes, close to downtown
The Living Room Lookout Trail is a popular spot in the foothills leading to an overlook where the rock formations look like chairs and couches—it's like nature's own living room. Park along Colorow Road, near the Natural History Museum and Red Butte Gardens. Since there are a lot of different paths, its smart to download a map before you go. There's not much shade, so bring plenty of water, especially when it's warm.

Donut Falls Trail - 3.3 miles, 508 feet of elevation, Uinta National Forest
Just a short drive from Salt Lake City, this hike is perfect for families and features a remarkable waterfall. Bathrooms are available at the trailhead, and there is a fee for parking. Swimming is prohibited.

Lake Blanche Trail - 6.4 miles, 2726 feet elevation gain, Uinta National Forest
This hike is steep and rewarding. The trail travels along the south fork of the Mill B Creek before climbing through aspen forests towards the reservoirs. Bathrooms are located at the trailhead.

ATTRACTIONS

Antelope Island State Park
A short drive from downtown, Antelope Island features a unique variety of wildlife, including bison, as well as white sand beaches and 25 miles of trails for hiking, biking or horseback riding.

Clark Planetarium
Explore 10,000 square feet of free exhibits and experience films in the Northrop Grumman 3D IMAX Theatre or Hansen Dome Theatre.

*FREE TRAX RIDE: From Gallivan Plaza Station, take the Blue Line toward Salt Lake Central and exit at Planetarium.

Discovery Gateway Children's Museum
In the heart of downtown, the Discovery Gateway Children's Museum features more than 60,000 square feet of interactive, hands-on exhibits for children of all ages. From daily science and art programming to imaginative play, the museum provides a dynamic environment where kids can learn life-long skills and families can learn and grow together. Closed on Tuesdays.

*FREE TRAX RIDE: From Gallivan Plaza Station, take the Blue Line toward Salt Lake Central. Exit at Salt Lake Central and walk 0.2 miles to the museum.

Great Salt Lake
Just 30 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City, the Great Salt Lake is North America's largest saltwater marvel, with salinity levels nearly nine times higher than the ocean. The Salt Flats and Antelope Island are highly visted attractions to explore the lake.

Hogle Zoo
Start your visit early to catch the animals when they're most active, then cool off at the splash pad before concluding with a ride on the zoo train. Admission is $24.95 for adults and $20.95 for children ages 3-12. Tickets for children 2 and under are free. Purchase tickets online to save $2 per ticket.

Lagoon Amusement Park
Located 17 miles north of Salt Lake City, Lagoon Amusement Park features 50 rides and attractions, including historic Pioneer Village, Lagoon A Beach Waterpark, musical entertainment and games.

Liberty Park
Liberty Park features 80 acres of green space where you can rent paddle boats on a small lake, play a game of basketball or spread a blanket under a sycamore tree.

Loveland Living Planet Aquarium
Home to more than 4,000 animals, the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium features a 300,000-gallon shark habitat with a 40-foot tunnel. Explore five animal habitats, from the rainforests of South America and Asia to the world's Oceans, Antarctic and local ecosystems.

Natural History Museum of Utah
Perched on the foothills overlooking the valley, the Natural History Museum features Utah's paleontology discoveries, gems and minerals, perserved artifacts, an exploration of the region's ecosystems and stories told by Utah's Indigenous nations of today.

Park City Historic Main Street
A beautiful main street with restaurants, ice cream, coffee shops, art, shops and boutiques. A good place to get Utah souvenirs.

Snowbird Moutain Coaster and Alpine Slide
Zoom through alpine meadows and pine forests on the resort's Mountain Coaster on a track following the winter ski runs. Ride the open-air chairlift for views of the canyon or take a Tram ride to Hidden Peak.

Temple Square and Church History Museum
Temple Square is a center of history and worship for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints offers Temple Square tours, museum services, libraries and live performances. Come enjoy beautiful gardens, majestic architecture, and the peace and reverence of this iconic space of worship.
Note: Under construction until 2027, but tours of the Conference Center, Tabernacle and Church History Museum are still being led by Sister Missionaries. Open seven days a week.

*FREE TRAX RIDE: From Gallivan Place Station, take the Green Line towards the airport and exit at Temple Square.

This Is The Place Heritage Park
Explore a Pioneer Village, pan for gold and ride trains and ponies at This Is The Place Heritage Park, which features family-friendly adventures with experiences from Utah's history.

Utah Olympic Park
Utah Olympic Park is a winter sports facility in Park City—a 30-minute drive from SLC—built for the 2002 Winter Olympics and featuring the bobsled, skeleton, luge and ski jumping venues. It remains an active training site and a public recreation area offering activities like bobsled rides, ziplines, an alpine slide and museums. You can ride the same Olympic bobsled track, experience a simulated ski jump zipline and visit museums dedicated to the 2002 Games and ski history.
