Don Morris: Update (Oct. 2017)

Snapshot

Dear Friends,

We have been busy implementing new church planting partnerships, and I think you’ll be excited to hear about them. We will be planting new churches and resourcing our existing congregations through our partnership with C2C US and district church planting boards.

CHURCH MULTIPLICATION/EVANGELISM

C2C US is directed by Scott Thomas. Scott and his wife, Jeannie, live in Nashville, Tennessee. Scott provides leadership for C2C church planter assessments, coaching and training as well as project management for church plants. Scott works in conjunction with district church planting boards and their efforts. I personally will be more involved with church planting in 2018, working with C2C US as a part of my job as USMB national director. In addition to focusing on church planting as part of our core commitment to church multiplication, we also desire to focus on evangelism in 2018 and to help our local MB churches with their evangelism efforts. We take seriously Jesus’ statement in Luke 19:10: “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Four new MB church plants have emerged in the U.S.:

  • Christian Koh is planting Redemption Church in Owatonna, Minnesota.
  • John Richardson is planting Prodigal Church in Fresno, California. This plant launched Sept. 24, 2017.
  • Alberto Lopez is planting a Spanish-speaking church in Draper, Utah, as part of South Mountain Community Church’s multi-site church planting.
  • Ken Wilkinson is the campus pastor for a replant at Mountain View Community Church Sunnyside in Fresno, California.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Leadership development is another of our three core commitments, so providing resources to our pastors and leaders is a top priority. This fall we offered five LEAD Cohorts. Cohorts are online meeting places for small groups of pastors or others interested in discussing a specific topic or gathering with like-minded people. We will be offering several new LEAD Cohorts beginning in January.

We are also providing opportunities to discuss current issues through our LEAD One events. The current LEAD One is Addressing Racism from a Biblical Perspective. We offered two events this October in the Southern District (Hillsboro, Kansas, and Edmond, Oklahoma,) and will be presenting the same topic in the Pacific District on Dec. 5, 2017, in Bakersfield, California, and Dec. 7, 2017, in Fresno, California. The LEAD One events have had good attendance and support. We will be working on another LEAD One series in the months ahead.

DISCIPLE-MAKING

Have you had a chance to visit our new website yet? The address hasn’t changed but the website sure has! On our website, we are offering more resources than ever to help people connect and grow in their relationship with Christ and with others. We will be offering forums soon to provide a platform for people to connect and share ideas even though they may live 10 states apart. The Resource Library on our website provides various book reviews, stories, news articles, E-ideas, printable pamphlets, general information and network connections. Check it out at usmb.org/resource-library.  Watch for more disciple-making initiatives in 2018.

GIVING TUESDAY

Mark your calendar for #GivingTuesday on November 28, 2017. Any contribution you make on #GivingTuesday will be spent to help train, equip and empower our local MB churches—and to help plant some new ones—all working toward the common goal of seeking and saving the lost. Will you partner with us to help us live out our Kingdom mission?

If you have any questions or ideas you would like to share just send me an email to don@usmb2stg.wpengine.com.
