Position Summary
HMBC is seeking a full-time Pastor of Youth and Families to disciple young people to lives
transformed by the power, presence, and love of Jesus Christ.
Hesston Mennonite Brethren Church (HMBC), located in Hesston, Kansas, is seeking a full-time Pastor of
Youth and Families to lead our ministry to students in grades 7–12 and to walk alongside the families who
love them. We are a multigenerational congregation of approximately 275 in a community of 4,000 people
in South Central Kansas, with an active youth ministry and a strong heritage of investing in young people.
The Pastor of Youth and Families will provide pastoral leadership, biblical teaching, and intentional
discipleship to youth and their families, and will serve as a member of our pastoral team. The successful
candidate will be a born-again follower of Jesus Christ, in agreement with the Mennonite Brethren
Confession of Faith, and called to shepherd the next generation.

Qualifications
Spiritual and Character
• A born-again believer walking in fellowship with Jesus Christ, modeling a Christ-like lifestyle, and
sound in faith and doctrine.
• Believes the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is relevant today.
• In agreement with, or willing to study and affirm, the Mennonite Brethren Confession of Faith
(usmb.org/confession-of-faith-4/). Candidates from outside the MB tradition are welcome to apply.
• Committed to the mission and philosophy of ministry of Hesston MB Church.
• Demonstrates the character qualifications described in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, and the fruit of the
Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23).
• Either currently licensed or ordained for ministry within the Mennonite Brethren Church, or willing
and able to pursue credentialing within the USMB. We will support the right candidate through that
process.
Gifts and Skills
• Strong relational and organizational abilities.
• A genuine passion to work with, mentor, and shape youth.
• Ability to communicate Scripture clearly and engagingly to youth in a variety of teaching settings.
• Ability to recruit, train, develop, and shepherd a team of volunteer leaders.
• Pastoral sensitivity in counseling youth and parents through problems, decisions, and crises.
• Capable communicator across phone, email, text, and social media, with warmth, grace, and clarity.
Education and Experience
• A college degree in Bible, ministry, youth ministry, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent ministry
experience will be considered.
• Prior experience in a youth ministry setting (paid or volunteer) is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with the Anabaptist-evangelical theological tradition is a plus.
Duties and Responsibilities
Shepherding and Discipleship

• Intentionally build relationships with and mentor youth in grades 7–12, walking with them toward
maturity in Christ.
• Teach youth in various settings, including Wednesday nights, Sunday mornings, retreats, youth
conferences, etc.
• Pastorally assist and counsel youth and parents facing problems, decisions, or crises, and refer to
appropriate professional resources when needed.
• Encourage, support, and regularly communicate with parents of youth, equipping them as the
primary disciplers of their children.
Ministry Leadership
• Lead and oversee the youth ministry program for grades 7–12, including vision, planning, calendar,
communication, and budgeting in coordination with church leadership.
• Organize and coordinate equipping opportunities including Wednesday nights, Sunday morning
Equip, youth camps and conferences, and special events.
• Recruit, train, develop, delegate to, and evaluate a team of adult volunteer leaders so that each
volunteer can serve effectively in their gifting.
• Coordinate with the Children’s Ministry Director to provide healthy transitions from children’s
ministry into youth ministry.
• Integrate youth into the worship services and broader life of the congregation.
Missions and Outreach
• Organize and lead youth mission trips.
• Engage in reaching unsaved and un-churched youth and families in the Hesston community.
• Participate in community youth activities and build relationships with area youth pastors, schools,
and community organizations as appropriate.
Young Adults (Advisory)
• Serve in an advisory capacity to volunteer leadership for the 20s/30s young adult ministry. Primary
ownership of young adult ministry rests with the Discipleship Pastor.
Pastoral Team and Church Leadership
• Work together with and be responsible to the Lead Pastor and church leadership.
• Participate on Church Council as a member of the pastoral team.
• Help with multi-ministry alignment, working alongside the Lead Pastor, Discipleship Pastor, and
Children’s Ministry Director to ensure cohesion across ministry areas.
• Preach occasionally as desired or as ministry needs require.
• Attend and represent HMBC at USMB and Southern District events as appropriate to the position.
