National Pastors' Orientation (NPO)

The  National Pastors' Orientation (NPO)

The National Pastors’ Orientation (NPO) is March 28-30, 2022 at the Island Palms Hotel and Marina on Shelter Island in San Diego, California.

COVID-19 UPDATE: As of January 13, we are making plans to host the NPO, so we encourage you to register but do not purchase flights. We will make a final decision by February 20. Please watch for email notifications or check this page for current updates.

These orientations are held every two years (with the exception of 2020 due to COVID-19) and are sponsored by the USMB Board of Faith and Life. This event, sponsored by the USMB Board of Faith and Life, is for lead pastors or staff pastors new to the pastorate or new to the USMB family, or if you are a pastoral staff member who has never attended. Spouses are also strongly encouraged to attend.

The speakers include Board of Faith and Life (BFL) members, Wendell Loewen and Stephen Humber. Worship will be provided by Brandon Pasion.

This event provides an excellent opportunity to get connected with leaders and other pastors in our national and district families. Those who attend will learn about the MB family structure, how we read the Bible and a short lesson on our Anabaptist and MB history. Many USMB resources including life insurance, retirement opportunities and more will be presented during the orientation. This is a fun and informative event and an opportunity to get away and be renewed and refreshed.

Matthew Hamilton and his wife, Michelle, attended the NPO in 2017. He shared this about his experience, "I found this opportunity to be both informative and relaxing. I made valuable connections to people and various MB organizations that have served me well in my ministry as lead pastor."

Registration deadline is Feb. 25!

TRANSPORTATION: Transportation is not provided by the hotel. However, the hotel is a short distance from the airport and we will be glad to make arrangements for your transportation to and from the airport upon request. All meals and meetings will be at the hotel. Transportation to the special events will be provided. We can also provide limited transportation to local area events during the free afternoon upon request. A rental car is only necessary if desired.

SCHEDULE: The event begins Monday morning at 8:00 am with breakfast and concludes Wednesday after lunch. There is no childcare provided.

HOW TO PACK: Shelter Island is a peninsula on the North San Diego Bay. There is a beautiful walking path near the shoreline right outside the hotel and the harbor on the opposite side of the hotel. There are bike rentals available from the hotel. Casual (think beach) clothing is appropriate for all the NPO events. Be sure to bring a warm jacket (and maybe long pants) as the ocean breeze can be quite chilly, especially in the mornings and evenings.

VACATION: We hope you have the opportunity to enjoy a few extra days in San Diego. To help make this possible, we have asked the hotel to extend the reduced rate for three days prior to and after the NPO event. If you plan to stay, just select the days of your stay when you register and Donna Sullivan will bill you for the additional days. (Room rates are $129 + tax for 1-2 people. Additional nights will be billed to you separately.)

The event and lodging will be at the Island Palms Hotel and Marina on Shelter Island in San Diego, Calif. The registration fee will be $300 per person or $500 per couple and covers hotel accommodations and all meals and activities. You will need to pay for your travel expenses to San Diego, but transportation in San Diego will be provided.

FREE TIME: San Diego offers many fun (and free) activities for adults and families alike. Check out this website for ideas.
