Snapshot: Update from Don Morris

Dear USMB Family,

As we continue to hear more about the spread of COVID-19 and the cancellations of all kinds of events from sporting to education—and now announcements from various state governments prohibiting gatherings of over 10 people and calling on people to simply stay at home, we realize that our MB churches are indeed affected in more ways than one. As a people, we first seek God and look to Him in faith and for guidance and security. We also should take appropriate precautions and not create undue risk to ourselves or others. In light of this, USMB is following the counsel of our local and national health authorities and we will be limiting our travel and gatherings until it’s deemed wise to re-engage.

The World Health Organization says the following: “We must stop, contain, control, delay and reduce the impact of this virus at every opportunity. Every person has the capacity to contribute, to protect themselves, to protect others, whether in the home, the community, the healthcare system, the workplace or the transport system.”

Resources on our website pertaining to COVID-19 may provide some helpful information for church leaders and individuals. Use it at your discretion. Many of our churches have now moved to providing online worship services and prayer groups. Those changes create many new problems and require the ideas and resources needed to overcome them.

Even though we are prohibited from gathering, there are some things you can do from home. Calling on elderly and special needs people in your congregation or community may help them feel better connected and reduce the fear that comes from isolation in such a sensitive season. Just calling and praying with them can make a world of difference. Plus, they may need a helping hand with shopping for supplies and food, etc. Write cards of encouragement. Connect with your family in meaningful ways. Make the most of any extra time on your hands by sitting at the feet of Jesus, then being His hands and feet to others as it is safe to do so.

Pray for your pastors and leaders as they work hard to navigate very challenging times, and I encourage you to continue to support your local church as you are able. And, if we at the USMB national office can be of assistance, please let us know. How this will all play out in the future is unknown to us but is known to God. Let’s pray, trust Him and at the same time, “spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”

Blessings,

Don

Don, we pray for you and are very grateful for your ministry. We have a question: is the Advisory Leadership Team: Brent Warkentin, Fred Leonard, and Paul Robie still functioning? With so many changes recently, we’re trying to keep up to date on who to pray for.
