Lacey Scully appointed as Christian Leader editor
July 3, 2025
The USMB national office is pleased to announce the appointment of Lacey Scully, a communications professional from Wichita, Kan., as editor of USMB’s Christian Leader magazine. Scully, who will work part-time in July and begin full-time in August, brings a variety of skills in communications, content creation, project management, writing and editing to the role.
Scully served more than 12 years with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), most recently as manager in the Office of Digital Management from 2021-2025. She has held various roles with the GSA since 2012, including communications specialist, IT customer support specialist and IT program manager.
In addition, Scully has served as a freelance writer for two publications, as an editorial intern and as features editor of the Kansas State Collegian newspaper. She also volunteered with the Peace Corps in Togo, West Africa, from 2009-2011.
As editor, Scully will plan, oversee and manage the production of six issues of the Christian Leader annually, working alongside associate editor Janae Shafer. She will also chair the editorial committee, which plans feature themes and content for upcoming issues.
“We had a strong pool of applicants, but Lacey is uniquely qualified and well-prepared for this role,” says USMB National Director Aaron Box. “Lacey possesses an impressive skill set and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. Lacey’s deep faith in Jesus and her commitment to the church are immediately apparent. I’m excited to work with Lacey to build on the strong history of the Christian Leader.”
Scully earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications from Kansas State University in 2007 and a certificate in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2021. She and her husband, Jeff, have two daughters and reside in Wichita, where they attend Ridgepoint Church and regularly serve in children’s ministry.
“It’s an honor and privilege to join the Christian Leader team and be a part of a rich history of creating community and drawing people closer to the Lord,” Scully says. “I’m extremely humbled to take on this role, and I’m eager to see what the Lord has ahead for this publication and how we can minister to our Mennonite Brethren family.”
Scully succeeds Connie Faber, who retired in May 2025 after 31 years of service on the USMB denominational magazine staff, including 21 years as editor.
