The Mennonite Brethren Historical Commission is responsible for fostering historical understanding and appreciation within the Mennonite Brethren Church in Canada and the United States. It fulfills this goal by:
- Coordinating the collection, preservation and cataloging of Mennonite Brethren conference archival records, in cooperation with a network of Mennonite Brethren archival centers.
- Publishing books related to the history and theology of the Mennonite Brethren Church, many of which are now readable online.
- Offering project grants and summer internships to promote ongoing Mennonite Brethren historical research.
- Publishing the Profiles of Mennonite Faith series of inspirational faith stories.
