USMB Letter to the National Commission on Military, National and Public Service

In June 2019, USMB was invited to join with 13 other Anabaptist groups/denominations to send an advisory/positional letter to the National Commission on Military, National and Public Service through MCC. This national commission is in the process of gathering feedback and information from various groups around the nation in preparation for their discussions/deliberations concerning selective service in the future.

This MCC-led letter provided much input regarding these denomination’s positions pertaining to armed forces service and advocating for selective service options for conscientious objectors. We respectfully declined to sign on with that MCC-led letter with the intent of writing our own letter to the commission, one that would best articulate our MB family’s diversity on this issue as well as incorporating portions of the MCC letter that we are in alignment with.

The attached USMB letter to the National Commission on Military, National and Public Service has been created by the USMB Board of Faith and Life and was signed by Don Morris, USMB national director, David Hardt, USMB Leadership Board chair and Tim Sullivan, USMB Board of Faith and Life chair. The original letter was signed and mailed to the commission along with a copy that was sent via email.
